I have to say, I find the dialogue format awkward. The nice thing about using speech bubbles is that you can move them around to “dead” areas of the sets. This is a standard used for decades in comic books, and people are used to it. There is another LEGO webcomic - Irregular Webcomic - that uses a hybrid version of speech bubbles you might consider. The bubbles appear OVER the images, with only slight directional indicators to point to the speaking character. It might be a good compromise between not blocking your sets (beautifully done, by the way) and not confusing your readers.

We’ve gotten a lot of great feedback, but definitely the two most common constructive criticisms have been the dialogue and the navigation of the pages. So we’ll be working on those for the next episode and probably retrofitting the first two as well. The helpful folks at Lugnet have come up with two suggestions we really like: using face pic avatars beneath the frames to show who’s talking; and using all italics for thoughts and all caps for sound effects. You’re right, though, that the danger in getting too novel with dialogue formatting is that there’s existing formats people are already used to, and we definitely don’t want people spending more time trying to figure out who’s talking than enjoying what they’re talking about!
As for navigation, I’m going to implement something using more javascript so that the page doesn’t reload each time and you can keep the mouse pointer over one link to click through the pages. And making the NEXT button more obvious
